Kern County TV is Kern County's local government cable television station. Geographically, Kern County TV is the largest government station, covering over 8,000 square miles.

Its goals are to:

• Foster transparency in government
• Expand citizen awareness of government and the decision-making process
• Provide programming of interest and educational value
• Encourage participation in government services and activities
• Provide complete and unedited coverage of government proceedings by broadcasting local government meetings
• Provide County departments with the means to promote their services to the public

Kern County TV has been operating as a public service television station since May 1997.

County Board of Supervisors, Bakersfield City Council and County/City Planning Commission meetings are broadcast live as well as rebroadcast later in the week. The Kern Council of Governments' monthly meetings are aired several times a month. As a service to our armed services community, Kern County TV airs Army News, Navy News, and Air Force News several times a week. Kern County TV special presentations include a variety of programming topics including how to find a job to health and safety tips for your home and family. When the station is not airing shows or meetings, InfoKern, a bulletin board service, is on the air with information about special events and helpful tips from various government departments.

Yes. The only items that are edited are those portions which are not agenda items.

Local cable companies pay annual franchise fees to the County. Kern County TV derives some of its operational budget from a small portion of these fees. Additionally, Bright House Networks helps support the station through the use of their fiber-optic transmission system.

With the ability to view local government meetings from their homes via television or from their PC (view live feed), the public has easier access to hear what local government is discussing thus keeping Kern County residents more informed of governmental issues and decision making. The public is now able to attend the Board meetings and not take a day off work.
